Dead or Alive is a…weird series. And it’s only getting weirder with a new VR-equipped arcade cabinet edition releasing soon.
On the surface, Dead or Alive is a series of fighting games featuring scantily-clad women who, in a spin-off series, adopt a quieter life of playing volleyball and enjoying other beach activities. Since the spin-off series, the games have mostly become about about weird camera pans, zooms, and upskirt-like shots.
The volleyball-set series somehow gets even creepier by now allowing players to smell the characters in its upcoming, immersive, photobooth-style arcade cabinet.
Dead or Alive publisher Koei Tecmo revealed several games that will be available on its VR Sense game cabinet in Japan, which emits odors, sprays mist on you, and simulates wind while you sit and play games in VR, Dengeki Online reported. Dead or Alive Xtreme is one of those games.
An excited Famitsu reporter tried the game out, noting that he felt a spray of water while he watched one of the characters shower and noticed her fragrant smell.
There’s no getting around how gross this sounds.
Dead or Alive Xtreme, the a spinoff series based on the Dead or Alive fighting game series, features a handful of women who exclusively wear revealing swimsuits and compete in events like beach volleyball and a game where two people use their butts to knock each other off a floating platform in a pool.
Dead or Alive Xtreme is already available for PlayStation VR, which apparently isn’t immersive enough for some people.
VR Sense will have a number of other titles available in Japan, including a horse racing game, a fantasy action game, and a horror game.
