The Legend of Zelda: Breath of Wild is a really big game. To prove it, Imgur user Dystify took the game’s overworld map and compared it to some other famous game worlds.
Spoiler: Breath of the Wild is the biggest Zelda game yet.
The above GIF starts with Breath of the Wild‘s starting zone, the roughly 0.2-square-mile Great Plateau, and then plops Zelda: Ocarina of Time‘s map right on top. Although Ocarina of Time‘s width and height dimensions are slightly higher than the Great Plateau’s, there’s a whole lot of unused space in that square, effectively making the first 3D Zelda smaller than the latest game’s starting zone.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is quite a bit larger at 1.7 square miles, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim even bigger still at a whopping 15.1 square miles.
But the winner is Breath of the Wild, with 23.7 square miles of explorable terrain (almost exactly the size of Manhattan).
These aren’t exact measurements and the maps aren’t exactly square, but the visuals show just how big Breath of the Wild really is compared to these other games.
Of course, Breath of the Wild‘s overworld isn’t the biggest in all of video games. Grand Theft Auto V‘s map is about 49 square miles and The Witcher 3‘s map is about 52 square miles. Impressive.
